DIET FOR JAUNDICED/LOW FAT HIGH CARBOHYDRATE DIET

LOW URIC ACID DIET

PRINCIPLE - A low purine, low protien, easily digestable diet with a liberal fluid intake is adviced.

CALORIES - Obese persons should reduced to normal weight and to prevent changes in the weight bearing joints.
A heavy meal supplying high calories should be avoided,
as it tends to precipitate an attack.
PROTIEN - About 60 gms protien a day is adequate, preferably Supplied as vegetable or milk proteins.
FATS - Fat consumptions is restricted, partly because its
Ingestion tends to cause retention of urates by the
Kidney and partly to prevent obesity.
FLUIDS - Liberal intake of fluids should be adviced to ensure a daily excretion of about 2000 ml of urine.

OR any Sago Preparation.
Dinner : Same as Lunch (Avoid Dal, Paneer & Eggs)

DIETARY EXCHANGES
1. In place of rice & dal you can have Iddli , Dosa, Kichidi.
2. You may take a Egg preparation like Egg Flip, Pudding or Boiled egg etc.
3. Avoid Meat, Fish & Fowls.
4. You can take following Vegetables – Broad Beans, Cabbage, Snake Gourd,
Tinda, Cucumber, Carrot, Ridge Guard, Bottle guard,French Beans,
Ladies finger, Radish white, Tomatoes, Onions, Pumpkin etc.
5. For taste you can use sourlime instead of tamarind.
6. You can use Sago & Pohe Upma , Pohe Chiwda, Sago chiwda.
7. In place of milk you are permitted to have kheer , curds,lassi any
other preparation. ( If patient is Diabetic avoid sugar instead use
articicial sweetners).


DIETARY CHANGES

Diet is an important factor in the prevention and treatment of Heart
Disease. The aim of Dietary modification is to reduce serum lipids and
Cholesterol levels and to control the body weight.
The factors to be considered are:
- Total fat intake
- Type of fat being consumed
- Dietary fibre intake
- Total calorie intake
TOTAL FAT INTAKE
Should be restricted to 20 to 25% of calories and should made
From polyunsaturated, monounsaturated & saturated type of
Fats.
TYPE OF FATS
Some foods contain a high amount of saturated fat & cholesterol should
be avoided eg. egg yolk, red meats, mutton, beef & pork can be subestituted with chicken or fish. The fat in chicken can further be reduced by removing
the skin. Milk and curd can be used in moderation, but the cream should
be removed.
Cholesterol is found only in foods of animal organ, but some foods
Like coconut, coconut oil and palm oil are high in saturated fats.
Saffola, Sunola, Groundnut oil can be used instead, but in restricted
amounts.
DIETARY FIBRE
A high intake of fiber helps to reduce serum lipid and cholesterol
Levels. Fruits, Green leafy Vegetables, whole grams, unrefined cereals
are good sources of dietary fibre.
TOTAL CALORIE INTAKE
Should be restricted so that weight is maintained at 5 to 10 % below
Ideal Body Weight. Sugar ,Sweets, Roots & Tubers & Alcohol are rich
Sources of calaries & hence should be restricted. The method of food
preparation is also important. The amount of cooking oil should be
limited. Foods can be boiled, steamed, baked or roasted is preferable
to fry.
MODERATED EXERCISE : Helps in reducing weight & lowering
Serum lipid levels.



DIETARY RESTRICTIONS IN REGARD TO DIABETICS
Morning 6AM One cup of Tea or ½ cup of milk without sugar.
Morning 8AM Any one of the following :
1) 2 Pulkas & Vegetables ( other than root vegetables).
2) Wheat Upma or Pongal 2 cup.
3) 4 Iddlies with sambar ( coconut & groundnut chatnee
not to be taken).
4) 3 Dosas with minimum oil.
5) 2 Vegetable sandwitches.

Mid Morning : 11AM One Glass butter milk or tamato soup
Or vegetable soup or lime juice or light tea.
Afternoon : 12.30 Vegetable salad + one Glass of water
3 cups of rice, green leafy vegetables,
fish curry 2 pieces weekly twice,
dal 2 cup, butter milk 1 glass.
3.30 to 4 PM : 1 cup of sprouted moong dal & channa dal
or marie biscuits 6.
Dinner 7.30 to 8PM : Vegetable salad + 1 glass of water
3 Pulkas or wheat rava upma 2 cups
with 1 cup of vegetables of light
sambar 1 cup, butter milk 1 glass.
Bed Time 10 PM : One cup of milk without sugar.
* EXERCISES
Exercise helps to increase Glucose utilisation.
Brisk walking, Jogging, Swimming & Cycling
Are good exercises for 45 minitues. If evening
Exercise before 2 hrs food intake of after 2 hrs
Food gap should be maintained.
Morning 15 minitues Meditation & 15 minitues
Yoga that is Surya Namaskaram is advisable.
